Thysanoptera of Japan

Acallurothrips hanatanii Okajima, 1993

This species has been recorded from Amami Is. and Ishigaki Is. in the Ryukyu Islands, and is also known from Taiwan. It has been rarely found from dead branches, and the detailed life cycle is unknown. This species and A. nonakai can be distinguished from the other three congeners from Japan by the brown tube that is brighter than the remaining abdominal segments. It can be distinguished from A. nonakai by the long IS2 setae (see the comment on A. casuarina) on the abdominal tergite VIII. Fungus-feeder.
